The Washin-Ryu Karate-do method of martial arts has grown under the expertise of Hidy Ochiai a Japanese of origin but American at heart. Master Ochiai as he is called with respect has not only mastered this technique but made it available through 25 Washin-Ryu Karate-do schools across the country for the benefit of those who want to learn the art of self defense through programs conceptualized and at times custom made for each individual learner.
There are specific classes for ages 6 to adults that are taught under trained apprentices of the Master in schools, colleges, communities and or individually for those seeking personal training. The Hidy Ochiai school of Washin-Ryu Karate-do further offers different levels of training as each group or individual passes from one stage to the other.
Washin-Ryu Karate-do is essentially a form of martial art training that combines the “Wa” or harmony and “shin” truth factors of self discipline to give a more modern empty hand martial art experience. This type of training enables the person to develop and control their spiritual, mental and physical latent energies to the full. The physical techniques aid to make students aware of the relation shared by their bodies with the universe.
Hidy Ochiai through his comprehensive training has made Washin-Ryu Karate-do adapt to each individuals needs without the slightest overtures. In other words he believes that this training can help different groups of people achieve different things. The Washin-Ryu Karate-do martial art technique can be a means of exercise, a means of anger and violence control and a means of harmonizing your body with the universe.
The Master argues that karate-do as a form of martial art is not to be used only for physical combat but as a means of self defense as well as self satisfaction and harmony. According to him violence is curbed at the outset if individuals learn to focus on eliminating it within themselves first by respecting others and maintaining a tolerance with everything that takes place outside of their bodies.
Beginners can take part in the Washin-Ryu Karate-do “All Ranks Classes” that cater to amateurs, intermediaries and advanced students all at the same time. The Black Belt and Brown belt classes are open to ages 16 upwards with specific current rank cards, and Purple Belts can attend any of these classes with prior permission from higher authorities. Hidy Ochiai’s love for young children is evident in the Little Pandas class meant for ages 4-6 years held throughout the school year and designed specifically by the Master himself.
The Washin-Ryu Karate-do school of martial arts also has active membership clubs in New York and Minnesota. The Binghamton YMCA New York, Westover YMCA and the Tioga County Boys and Girls Club are run successfully within the city while the Midwest Washin-Ryu Karate-do Club is located in Plymouth Minnesota. All the clubs provide an unexpected chance to meet the great founder of Washin-Ryu Karate-do form Hidy Ochiai should he appear.
